Excursion Program: Dive, Snorkel & Explore

Year 9 → Year 12

A full day program where students gear up, and get wet! Students can Dive (certification required) or Snorkel in Australia's largest aquarium to hone their underwater skills, alongside giant marine life. It's the ultimate day at AQWA for marine and maritime studies students and any budding marine biologists!

Program Itinerary

  • This program Itinerary is for planning purposes and is subject to change based on student numbers and/or upon request:
  • Arrival - check in at Reception from 9am, deposit your 10c containers (if applicable)
  • 9.00 - 10.20am - Self-guided exploration of AQWA's exhibits
  • Assemble - Gather students at least 5 minutes prior to your activity start time, to meet your Ocean Guide.
  • 10.30am - Greeting with Ocean Guide and briefing of the day. Split into groups of 4.
  • 11.00am - 2.30pm: rotion of the following activities:
  • In-Water Experience - dive or snorkel in water experience
  • Add-Ons - if booked, groups not in the water will complete Glass Bottom Boat or Behind The Scenes add-ons.
  • Explore - if no add-ons booked, groups not in the water have time for focused exploration of exhibits relevant to study.
  • Regroup - teacher handover, Guide farewell
  • Depart - at teachers discretion

Bookings

Available during WA school term, by request.

You can arrive for your Excursion from 9am; your full day program commences at 10.30am and concludes by 2.30pm*. Please note students should be assembled and ready to meet your Ocean Guide prior to this start time.

*Duration of excursion is dependant on student numbers. Remaining time can be spent exploring AQWA’s exhibits and completing relevant work/field notes.

Participants Requirements

Participants must not suffer from known heart conditions, epilepsy or asthma and must be capable swimmers.

Participants must be aged 14+ years.

A parent/guardian waiver is required for all participants under 18 years.

Dive skills are not taught in this experience. Participants in a Dive session must have a minimum open-water SCUBA certification and have dived in the last 12 months. Discover SCUBA course-completion does not apply.

Snorkel skills are not taught in this experience. Participants in a Snorkel session must have snorkelled before.

Students

Years 9 – 12 students only. Minimum age is 14.

There is a minimum of 8 students to book this package, maximum 16.

Students will split into groups of 4 participants for each dive / snorkel session, with up to 4 sessions maximum per day.

Teachers and Helpers:

*If teachers are required/would like to partake in the in-water experience, they must pay the full student rate and are included in the participant numbers.

At least one supervisory teacher/helper is required to remain with the students who are not in the water / exploring exhibit areas. Please ensure you have sufficient supervisors.

Supervising only teachers/helpers are free-of-charge at the following ratios:

  • Years 3 to 12 – 1 FOC : 10 Students
  • Additional Supervisory Teachers/Helpers: ticket required, available at current Concession rate.

Before Your Excursion

Bring 3 For The Sea initiative:

Get students excited for their excursion by involving them in our Bring 3 For the Sea initiative! 

  • AQWA has teamed up with Containers for Change and we are asking every student and visitor to bring three 10c marked containers with them to donate to the AQWA Foundation.
  • This small challenge will support AQWA Foundation’s turtle rehabilitation program AND reduce plastics in the ocean and in landfill. 
  • Simply have each student bring 3 eligible containers to donate during your excursion.
  • Participating schools receive a free Child Return Pass for each Student and can receive a Certificate of Acknowledgement for helping the AQWA Foundation!
  • When you book an AQWA excursion, you can request we post out a free Containers for Change collection bag to start gathering your containers before you visit.
