AQWA LEANER AND CLEANER
12 August 2003
AQWA, the Aquarium of Western Australia, has used cleaner production techniques to trim its operations, saving thousands of dollars.
At its Hillarys Boat Harbour facility, AQWA has implemented a number of efficiency improving initiatives and also achieved better environmental performance. AQWA has saved $18,000 per year in electricity from a review of shutdown practices alone. Involvement of staff in improved working practices has been integral to its success. AQWA has also reduced its use of paper and chemicals and achieved a significant drop in the level of chlorine in its waste water.
"We're delighted with the progress AQWA has made in improving efficiency and reducing our impact on the environment," said Mike Reid, AQWA Facility Manager. "In line with our ongoing cleaner production action plan, we will continue to review our procedures and implement initiatives to improve our resource efficiency even further."
